What is Lawn?

Lawn is a native macOS menu bar app that makes self-hosted software approachable. You choose an app from the catalog; Lawn installs and manages it on your Mac.

Do I need Docker or a terminal?

No. Lawn is designed for people who want the outcome without learning container commands or writing configuration files.

What Mac does Lawn require?

The current preview requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26 or newer.

Is Lawn a native app store?

No. Lawn itself is a native Mac app, but the catalog contains self-hosted apps and background services. Each one opens through the interface it provides, often in your browser.

Is Lawn a cloud provider?

No. “Your own cloud” describes a private collection of useful software running on your Mac. Lawn does not move your apps or data onto Lawn-owned servers.

Can I access my apps away from home?

Simple remote access is planned, but it is not part of the current preview. Today, Lawn focuses on installing and running apps on your Mac.

Does any data leave my Mac?

Lawn sends anonymous usage analytics through TelemetryDeck, which you can turn off in Settings, and diagnostic crash reports through Sentry. These reports do not include the names of apps you run or the contents of your files. Apps from third parties may still make their own network connections, so their privacy behavior remains important.

What happens after installation?

Lawn lets you start, stop, restart, configure autostart, and inspect logs and resource use today. Safe updates, recovery, backups, and remote access are roadmap work and are labeled as such on this page.
